The Mountains Are Calling
And I Must Torridon #ThrowBackThursday
Lives in a van. Bimbles with a camera. Often pointing his pixel box at scruff. Has been known to run long distances. Would consider cake as a form of payment.
Recovering.
Welcome back to another #ThrowBackThursday, and this week I’m looking back at some of my images made in and around the Torridon area of Scotland.
Torridon is a remote, mountainous area in theNorthwest Highlands of Scotland, specifically within the Wester Ross district of Highland. Known for its ancient, dramatic landscape, it sits at the head of Upper Loch Torridon, featuring famous peaks like Liathach, Beinn Eighe, and Beinn Alligin
As much as I love the coastline, the mountains will always be my favourite type of landscape, and while I have limited experience in climbing, with only a handful of Munros under my belt, simply being amongst those peaks can and often is enough for my soul.

I’ve visited a number of times in the van, often tucking myself away in a small corner, then heading out to explore, perhaps the only noticeable human for miles around. I say human, as often you will have at least a few pairs of eyes watching you from the many magnificent Red Deer population that call this area home.
Most of my visits have coincided with Autumn, when the forests and hillsides are ablaze with fiery reds and golden yellows, the evocative roar of a Red Deer stag echoing through the glen and across Loch Maree.
Still one of my favourite days in the mountains was climbing Beinn Eighe, the narrow ridge line proving quite an adrenaline rush for us both. The image actually won a little monthly completion in tail magazine as well. Bonus.
As a side note, a few favourite photographers to capture work in this area include Alex Nail, and Dean Allen with the former producing an incredible book, NorthWest, although I think it’s mostly out of print.

One day, I hope to spend more time in the Scottish Highlands, and perhaps even grab an image or two.
Oh and by the way, the cheese scones served up at the Torridon Stores are some of the best you will ever taste.

Thanks so much for allowing me a few moments of your time. I hope you have enjoyed my words and images, and if so a quick share amongst your own community will help spread the word.
And if you really enjoyed it you can even consider throwing a few pennies into the tips jar. It helps most with diesel costs for the van to keep me on the road making images.
Until next time .. Happy Pixels …

Beautiful.
Beautiful images and a stunning part of the world.
